My first 3 bookings in this industry were scams. This was before I got my first background role. One of the scam artists were probably selling our email addresses. It was odd that it was a TV sitcom with all female characters in it. It started to buzz around Facebook Groups that there were no male characters getting callbacks for this 'show'.
Don't meet people at coffee shops or hotels at all. If the coffee shop is rented out properly then maybe you can take a look to confirm. Casting calls at 'Starbucks' is not cute. Don't let someone talk you into believing that it's going to be a conference room or private lounge at a hotel where they're holding the audition. The man that was selling our email addresses tried to get all of us women to sign contracts at this coffee shop on the spot in a Burbank location. If they talk dirty to you- that's a huge red flag too.
Any nude roles would have an intimacy coordinator. No flirting. No dirty talk.
I was in a cafe looking like a dummy next to other women doing a table read with this guy representing *Taste for Life TV" Before the table reading this man was ranting a bunch of religious mumbo jumbo. We did the table read 3 hours after he tried to convert us while sitting in the cafe. I was so naive that our second location of meeting this man was at a Denny's. He starts a pump up meeting about how quickly we're going to make money in this industry. Total red flag. Don't take gigs from off the street, not even in the mall. These people want to meet initially in public places then make it more private as the growing number of contestants become suspicious.
AM IS A SCAM WORD. IT'S SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY TRYING TO PRONOUNCE I'M OR I AM. DO NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS THAT USE THE WORD 'KINDLY' AND 'DEAR'.
Just take my word for it. It's a scam.
Don't fall for emails that tell you that you can make $2,000 with no audition. What they are trying to do is bounce a check into your account. I did not cash the check that was for $1,780 that was sent to my address. By the time I got the check something in my mind said it just doesn't feeI right. They kept texting me 'You need to cash the check' but never answered my calls. For 6 months a number kept calling on private mode with someone breathing on the other side of the phone and hanging up. I had to change my number. I once got an email from an uncalled for audition to meet at a high school at 7:00 p.m. instructing me to wear all black. I never auditioned for them! But they sent this crap to my email.
I wanted to quit this business three times. Primarily for my safety. I've had stalkers. I've had a peeping Tom. I had two sets of friends that didn't even know each other try to steal my identity. I knew these people for 5 years before it got weird. S*** gets weird man. There are cults, kidnappers, and human trafficking involved in this stuff.
