We all get nervous. It's what makes us human. Getting nervous before an audition is natural. Some people are insecure about whether or not they showed up prepared to the audition. Some actors want to make sure that they remembered all of their lines. Some are shy during the audition. Maybe you didn't stretch before the audition ( I highly recommend this.)
The Casting Director wants you to win. Do you know why? It means I saw your self-tape and I enjoyed it. I liked something about your performance in the audition to show to the producers. Why would you think a Casting Director wouldn't want you to win? I have a job to do. Finding great actors, it's my job. Casting Directors get hired to find talent in a certain amount of time. When casting a project, the ball has to keep rolling. The last thing I want to see is witnessing an actor that shows up late or unprepared. I am rooting for you. I told producers that you're a great actor and have to prove it to them. It helps me keep my job. So if you get chosen to do a self-tape for an audition, yes! Yay to you! I'm rooting for you! Yay! It's so much easier for the the casting process to run smoothly when you are prepared and flexible when having a conversation in your audition.
Sending in a self tape is to be expected after the pandemic shutdown. To be honest it's just a cheaper way of getting the work done. Some business owners believe that a studio doesn't need to be rented out to hold a casting call anymore. Everyone is used to self tapes nowadays. 'It's The New Normal'. Every corporation or business in this country is saving more money now than ever post-pandemic. It is what it is.
If you don't turn in a self-tape after you chosen to turn in an audition to a Casting Director, that's all bad. I have been in situations where I'm rooting for an actor behind the scenes and then they don't turn in the self tape for the audition. If you don't accomplish turning in a self tape to the Casting Director, you might be lucky, you be chosen to be a background actor in the film. That's the best that you might get for me. That's because you aren't showing full dedication to the project. I would be sad if an actor that I rooted for didn't turn in the self tape. Your self-tape that I am expecting from you is supposed to be turned in for me to show the producer. Im rooting for you. Even though you might be competing against five other actors, please understand that a Casting Director wants you to win. That's our job. We like you!
