TOUGH BUSINESS

Have you heard of the saying in Hollywood, "you need to have thick skin to work in this business"? Well I hear this a lot. It's true, actually.

At times you feel like you are on top of the world. Then sometimes you are picking your chin back up. You can't hang your head down low for too long though. You have to be tough and you have to keep going. That's if you don't want to quit.

If you do quit, that's your decision. It's a lot of people who make that decision in this industry. A lot of people are unemployed in the film business altogether in any given time. I can't find the stat but I think I have heard that 97% at any given time of the film business is the unemployment rate. Having thick skin keeps your head in the game. There is money in this industry to be made. Some people are making a lot of it and some people aren't. If it's not you making bread then you have work to do. That's all that means. I learned that when I was a stripper just starting my career in nightclub dancing. Eventually I did come out on top. Some nights I made $2 in stage tips but other nights I made $1400. It's kind of the same thing with acting.

I like to apply for acting and film crew gigs in the wee hours of the morning. At 1:00 a.m. in the morning I was hired to be on the show "KILLER SIBLINGS". I was scheduled to play a detective. I was so excited. I stayed up all night to prep my hair, nails, and skin. At 7:00 a.m. in the morning I still didn't have the address to the shoot. The shoot started at 9:00 a.m. I wondered what the hell was going on. Something told me that that the producers had changed their mind.... And they did.

By 8:30 a.m. I got an email saying that the role was unavailable due to some changes. I was so bummed. I slept in the rest of the day. Later on that night I went back to looking for another gig. I kept going.

Today is October 1st, 2023. I was hired to do a production assistant contract. The pay was $155 a day. It was too good to be true. I just got an email saying that the producer doesn't take on paid production assistants and they will leave my resume on file for future opportunities. In my opinion it's probably because I'm catching the bus. I told them that in my application report. Now, I'm here writing this blog post. I'm going to do laundry today. After I cook breakfast I'm going to promote my blog on social media. Oh well, better luck next time. I'm thinking about posting a ballet dance video on Instagram later.
